One step up and two steps back....../ a good book

Sorry its been awhile since my last post but Ive been really not in the mood to share stuff... Just alot of the outside world coming down on me at once... Work and the pressures of getting people to buy stuff in this economy, weather and this seemingly everlasting winter, gas prices and prices of everything else going up and up and a big chunk of my paycheck going to fill my tank to get to work (kind of ironic when you think about it).  The title refers back to a Springsteen song that I found myself listening to years ago when I found myself in a rut. Doesnt life feel that way sometimes? You take one good step ahead one day when everythings seems to go your way and then the next two days feel like you came crashing down two GIANT steps to fall back of where you were when you started out... Try as one might to remain positive, it just does get to you after awhile. The times we live in arent fun (lets face facts) and dont look to be repairing themselves anytime soon... but its neither here nor there and nothing we can do about it for the most part so..... On to the second part of my blog tonite. Escapism seems to be the thing today... How can we escape from all this?  Travel - love to but it costs way too much money to go away, movies are fun but getting expensive also, video games are a big one for me but you need to pry away from them or you end up with carpal tunnel or just bored.. The TV?  yeah I dig my wrasslin a few days a week but I dont really watch anything other than sports and old sitcoms...or movies which I already own on DVD... lol... so whats left?  Especially in the winter?   Yes spring is coming sooner or later and that will allow for more outdoor activities and happier times.

What this calls for is a good book.... Yes a book... you remember them?  The hardcover thing with the printed paper in between?  lol...  I always loved to read and still do. Ive taken to reading smaller stories now such as graphic novels and comics or stuff on the internet. I dont get to sit down with novels alot anymore because I find myself laying down and falling asleep and then the book hits me in the face... not fun... If I do find that novel I read during the day more than night. I used to always buy the novels of my favorite movies just to see what they wrote into the story that didnt make the movie. I actually read the book before I see the picture. Yes it ruins it but I know then what was left out... I have a ton of movie paperbacks that Ive gathered through the years. I also have alot of comics and graphic novels that Ive read that were excellent. A few stories from my life stand out... I remember reading a book called "Where the Red Fern Grows" back in 5th grade about a boy and his two dogs... Very compelling book... Sad story yet a very good book. I remember reading Othello and really enjoying it. Then all the movie novels... I read a book called the Dragonlance Chronicles... Excellent story... The book was huge... maybe the largest I ever read but worth every minute. That took me months to finish but it was worth every minute... Its my 2nd favorite adventure novel behind LOTR.. Then I read alot of Stephen King. Short stories especially. Ive also read some awesome graphic novels as well. Those of you who arent comic books fans, trust me you would enjoy these as well... The Dark Knight Returns... This one was amazing. Read it in one sitting. Batman 10 years after he retired comes back and tries to take Gotham back when hes over 60... Frank Miller wrote it and it is still one of the best ever... Watchmen... Just finally read this after the movie came out and it was as good as advertised. The Crow... One of my favorite stories ever... Very sad redemption story... A Spiderman book called Kraven's last hunt... which was dark for its time and another very good book... Sin City, The Long Halloween, Hush, The New Frontier the list goes on and on... Lately, Ive been reading all the Walking Dead books (love the show and the comics)... Ill always look to books as an escape and trips to Borders are usually fun to look forward to. So what books have left impressions on you? Have you ever read any book more than once?  What are you reading now?  Do yourself a favor and settle in with a book... they never seem to let you down.....(or charge too much for gas)...... See you on the stepladder.....
