Kiss the rain....

Driving home today in this nasty rain and wind storm I found myself thinking.... just when did rain and snow stop being fun and start being an annoyance?

I know there must have been something that happened... Some event that made me go from enjoying running around outside in the rain, playing football, basketball, swimming (being underwater in a pool during a rainstorm is awesome) etc..outside in sometimes driving rain storms until my parents would come after me and tell me to get inside... (basketball was kind of tough playing on the wet court with the wet ball but we managed)....

When exactly did snow become just that lousy white stuff that I cant wait to get rid of?

Again, to go from making snow forts, playing football, pretending to be on Hoth (from Star Wars of course)...just not giving one damn about getting soaked, falling down, sliding, etc...in fact hoping those things would happen....

Even as a teen to my early 20s I have fun memories of running around in the rain... maybe even that first kiss stolen during a rain storm.... and trudging through the snow at State College to get to classes...

and today... I just worry that my car wont slide much and that I can see the road... funny, just for a second... I almost felt like stopping near a beautiful hill on 81 .... getting out of the car and letting that spring rain beat down  over my face... like when i didnt care....all those days ago.....

News of the world....

So its been awhile since Ive blogged and Ive been busy... Been working on my Adventures in Retail book .. just writing some stuff here and there.. slowly putting it altogether. I didnt want to totally stop my blog or neglect it so Ill just jot down some random thoughts...

I have to admit.. all of the goings on around our world have been on top of my mind lately. I mean who can blame anyone for thinking about it? Seems there is something horrible happening around every corner.. Now trust me, I know that we live in an information age and as my Journalism Prof once told me .. "Bad news sells."

However, I cant help but wonder just where alot of this stuff is leading.. Kind of scary when you start to think about it all. I guess maybe if I was more into faith like I was when I was a younger man I might just leave it to that and not be concerned. In fact, Ive been thinking alot about whether or not I should attempt to get back to that in some way shape or form.

Everyday you read about different species of animals in large groups dying... (birds, fish, insects, and dolphins were the latest I read) seemingly without any scientific explanations. (at least good ones) ... These huge earthquakes occurring in Japan and other areas...Huge solar flares striking the earth... Unbelievable stuff... which of course triggers all kinds of End Times, End of the world theories, etc, etc... There is even a website based on 2012.. showing maps of where to move to and which areas would be the best to live in when the BIG ONE finally hits...

Now obviously you cant dwell on any of this. You say your prayers for the victims, shake your head in disbelief and you move on with your day. Nothing else you really can do.. If you start making stuff like this a part of your daily life it makes things way too depressing.. You really do have to live for the moment and day to day... not like its anything that any of us really can control. I was watching a show on the Discovery channel about earthquakes and disasters and they mentioned how Japan was one of the most prepared countries for something like this. They build their skyscrapers with weights on either side to make them sway and not fall in the event of an earthquake. They send their children to classes to learn what to do in the event of a disaster. Yet what did it all do?  Is it good to be prepared? What do you even prepare for? I learned that we live over a fault line that usually has quakes every 100 years or so... and they said we are overdue for one. We are lucky but will we always be?

A scientist was asked what we can really do to prepare for events like these?  He mentioned to pack a bag with a battery operated radio, flashlight, some bottled water and w loud whistle (in case you get buried under something and need to be found).. interesting... what i find almost funny is that all this awesome technology we have and we rely on battery operated devices and a whistle...

Many have said that knowledge is power... maybe just opening your eyes and ears to these situations is a good thing. The other thing I wonder is ... would YOU like to be a survivor? I know that we all have an underlying need to survive no matter what but would you want to live in a whole new world? Maybe with alot of devastation, ruins... struggling to find food, water, the most basic elements you need to live. Many would probably answer depending on who they survived with... and thats probably the best answer you can give. TV shows like the walking dead (great show btw) are certainly horrific and far fetched but the dilemma those people face (minus the zombies) could be very real at some point in time. Personally, I hope Im not around to have to live through or see it...

So friends of my Blog.... What would your choice be?  A survivor in a potentially hazardous new world or not?   respond with your answers.. oh and sorry if I bummed anyone out...I had to get this off my chest...
